About Warangal

Warangal is the second-largest city in Telangana, India, and serves as the district headquarters. With a population of over 8 lakh (2011 Census) and an area of 406 km², it is historically significant as the former capital of the Kakatiya dynasty, known for its forts, temples, lakes, and iconic stone gateways.

Recognized as the cultural capital of Telangana, Warangal has been selected under the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana and Smart Cities Mission for urban and infrastructural development. It is also part of UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities for promoting lifelong learning.

Warangal, along with Kazipet and Hanamkonda, forms the Warangal Tri-City. These cities are connected by National Highway 163 and serviced by major railway stations at Kazipet Junction and Warangal.
