Introduction to IOE

IOE (Institute of Engineering) is one of the most renowned, top and oldest technical institutes in Nepal. The IOE was founded in 1930. IOE is also Nepal's first technical school and was reformed to its present shape in 1972.

About IOE Entrance

The Institute of Engineering (IOE) began offering undergraduate engineering programs in 1978. It expanded to include a master's program in 1996 and a doctoral program in 2003. Today, the Central Campus in Pulchowk offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs, while undergraduate courses are also available at Thapathali Campus, Purwanchal Campus, and Paschimanchal Campus.

IOE is focused on enhancing its bachelor's programs and further strengthening its master's and doctoral offerings. The institute operates from four main campuses and ten affiliated colleges.

The IOE entrance exam is a highly competitive exam in Nepal that is conducted annually by the Tribhuwan University Institute of Engineering Education.

Exam Pattern of IOE Entrance

The IOE entrance is taken by computer, which is commonly known as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and comprises two parts, Part A and Part B, for a total of 140 marks:

Entrance Exam Schedule and Eligibility for TU (Tribhuvan University)

• Exam Time: The entrance exam typically takes place during the last week of Shrawan (around July or August).
• Form Distribution: Forms are available in the first week of Ashad (usually June) through an online portal.
• Eligibility Criteria:
  
  • Applicants must have completed their 10+2 or a Diploma in Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, with subjects in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • A minimum of Grade C in each subject or a GPA of 2.00 is required.
• Exam Format:
  
  • Subjects and Full Marks (F.M.):
    • Physics: 40 marks
    • Chemistry: 20 marks
    • Mathematics: 40 marks
    • English: 22 marks
    • Engineering Aptitude: 18 marks
  • Total Marks: 140 An additional aptitude test worth 75 marks may also be included in some exams.
